Update on PACAC and BSC

Better Statistics (BSC) have provided a further submission to the PACAC inquiry into UKSAfollowing the evidence of Sir Robert Chote, Ed Humpherson and Emma Rourke provided to PACAC on the 1st  and 8th of July and that of Sir Ian Diamond on the 9th  September.   We considered  theses public sessions had supported our view that none of those in a responsible position understand what had gone wrong. Certainly, none of the key player seem to accept any responsibility for the failures.

This inability to recognise the nature of the problem was also evident in the series of reviews there has been over recent years.  Each of the Bean Review of 2016, the PACAC review of 2019, the Lievesley Review of 2024 and the recent Devereux  Review have identified that there are problems with our National Statistics but none has seemed to truly identify the cause or how to put it right.

BSC therefore welcome the continued interest of PACAC with these issues  and we hope the inquiry will lead to some real changes.

Please see this Link to read the full details of our latest submission.

Also see PACAC Submissions Site for BSC’s earlier submission to the Inquiry and this Link for a commentary on the public session of the PACAC enquiry held on 1st  July.

See also this Blog from Britain in Numbers for a suggested New Legislative Framework for UKSA, it’s well worth a read.

Finally please note that the proposed one day seminar “Growing the UK Economy has now been postponed until sometime next year, when we expect matters to have settled down.  We certainly hope so!
